Oh I love it!! He looks so intense and those eyes, with that shirt just go together perfectly!! ;D I don't think so! I also love when he is shaving through the side mirror, that is just cinematography at its prime!

Isn't it comforting to know that you are not alone? Jack had such a profound impact on SO many people and I love discovering that more with each day here!! Donnie Darko perked my interest in him but then I kind of lost sight with my Johnny Depp shall we say ...obsession/fetish whatever you would like to label it... and then Brokeback Mountain came around and I ... my heart was I swear out of my chest, sobbing itself and took on a life of its own. Most likely having errupted several occasions over!

Well...to tell you the truth... An actor, an ordinary one, a less professional one accepts to do a role just for money, luxury, fame, women - all that starring in a film brings you. A GOOD actor, on the other hand, reads over and over again the script, talks with the director, thinks it through and then, if he really wants to do that particular role, he has to be very responsible. He takes credit for his work and he has to do his best and make the character more "real", more "believable". A GREAT actor puts his very personal touch on the character, he gets one with it, refering to the fact that he gets emotionally implied. Body and soul, he dedicates himself "just" to act as best as he can. You see, there aren't good and bad characters, only more or less-likeable, but that thing can change with the help of the best-suited actor. A good actor can make the character more likeable through his performance. A great actor does what it takes to play a memorable role, all that this implies. He gets fat, he loses a couple of pounds, he gets his hair-cut/shaved, he wears a mask or a several-pound suit. He even learns to walk, talk, dress and act like a women, for a transvestite role, let's say. Or, in this case, he kisses a man and makes sweet love ( ) with him. AND ALL, FOR ART'S SAKE! Because he is capable and wants to do what it is necessary to improve his acting, to make it more believable. It's about making sacrifices, if you know that it is worth it. It's not about just "role-playing"..the character is and must be a little part of you. As you are a little part of him, whether you identify with him or not. You are in charge and you decide what's best for you and your acting. It is not shameful at all to starr in "gay-movies"!!! On the contrary: it is a respectful, honest and a work to be proud of! The movie industry has no boundary and you shouldn't be the one to impose one only because you aren't open-minded!!! This is what I think and I hope it won't bother anyone in here..Well, if it does, I appologise and promise not to write such offensive words...

Exactly! Madeline you said that so elegantly and I could not possibly word it better. I know through several acting gigs that I am done you have to draw upon your experiences to make it real. And from your desciptions, Jake is a great actor. He is memorable for every role he does!
I was once told ...you have many "people" living inside your head and dying to get out and have their story told. That is how you write great literature, you know the characters, they are a part of you... same with acting

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU MADELINE!! A person who wants to become an actor just for money or for fame is not an actor. I want to become an actor to make people think and make them feel some strong emotions. For me, BBM is the perfect example for what a good film is. Great acting, great feelings, the actors are totally believable in their role... As I already said, my dream is play in a film like BBM and be believable in my role...

Yes it is like everything in life, you must do it for the right reasons! And Rafael, your reasons are so pure, and the little I know of you, I am sure you can do it! I believe in you to become a great and inspiring actor. Films are not just to watch, not just entertainment in my eyes, I go to see them to be moved, to have my eyes opened, to see the world from a new perspective, if an actor/tress can make you feel that.. make you laugh make you cry make you... whatever emotion, that is true art of their craft!

Jake took a risk too in doing this movie. Apparantly all his "advisors" told him not to do it because it might damage his career. But he did it anyway because he loved to story so much. What a pro!

I agree with all of you This movie is going to ' live ' on in movie history not because it was the ' gay cowboy movie ' (GCM), but because it was a LOVE story that ANYONE can enjoy and put themselves into. I am very sorry to say this and if it offends then please excuse me, but I am so SICK AND TIRED of ppl referring to it as that (GCM) I feel like I am beating myself up to try and defend this movie to ppl (in my life that is), if ppl would only go and see for themselves how riveting this movie is. I can't even begin to go into the actors cause They both did a tremendous job and made ' Jack and Ennis ' feel so real. You are right Madeline Jake and Heath both are ' great actors ' I mean they walked away from this movie more than just friends, they are bonded in a special way. Jake has said it before in an interview how close they have become, and Heath asked Jake to be his daughters Godfather. I'm sure both of them have made friends on the sets of their other movies, but because they allowed themselves to truly 'feel ' these characters they have become extremely close. I did ' notice ' Jake before, but him in this movie just wow pushed me over the top. When a movie can make you feel so ' physically ' moved (crying, laughing) that it makes you root for it, and then in the end you feel like YOUR heart has been ripped out I can't say enough.............(Actually maybe I have LOL)

Yes, I am also here because of Jake. He is such a GREAT actor in my mind. He has everything that an actor needs. NOt like those singer cross-over actors. They are the pretty boys who only accept money. Jake takes films as he said in an interview with a moral or an emotional plot.
I agree with you jakesdream I am sick and tired of defending this movie. Practically everyone I know has called it "The Gay Cowboy Movie" but have they ever really looked and seen what other movies area out there that have homosexual people in them. They don't make fun of Alexander. They don't make fun of Transamerica. (although it might not have a homosexual in the end) They probably haven't even heard of the movie Harry Hamlin was in in the 80's where he played a homosexual. Brokeback will win more awards than any of the movies that these people who call it the GCM like will win. Sure their movie might win a MTV Movie award but that isn't the Oscars.
