Lureen looked to (I almost typed Gareth ...ah where is my mind! Still on Swiss time!) Jack and cocked her eyebrow slightly upward. Almost as a reflex she scanned over her shoulder to see if he had motioned for someone else instead, and caught her eyes in the process.
But, being rather bold, she slid out of the booth and slipped her fingers into her back pockets of her jeans. "Yeah?" she said, not yet giving him an inch. Many of the cowboys around these parts would take full advantage and feast upon flesh so beautiful as hers. "N'I help you, cowboy?" she said and took the seat he motioned her to... not before a long pause of sizing up the fellow and his intentions.
Her gaze then caught the beer. "If you are intending to drink me underneath the table... you have something else coming to you entirely." Lureen said with a slowly growing smile.

Jack smiled as Lureen made her comments. He turned to her after taking another drink of his beer, passed her the other glass the bartender had given him, and said to her, "Just wonderin' what a pretty gal like you is doin' in a smelly old bar like this."
As he said those last words, he looked at the bartender who gave him a menacing look, and turned back to Lureen but tried to make sure he didn't spill any beer out of his nose at the dire need to laugh because he had just said what he did in front of the bartender.

Alma was tired from another day of work, not knowing what to do today. She had asked for half the day off. She got it. She spent and hour at the local bar, ate lunch and had a drink. She went back to the market to buy some candy with her paycheck and got some gas next door.
She was in her car going to the next town over to buy some sort of game or something. She ended up going to another bar and getting dinner. She was bored and didn't know why she took off work for this was just as boring.
Alma rode home and told her mom that she had dinner and went up to her room. She turned on the TV and watched it. She saw mountains in the commercial and started to cry for she knew Ennis was still in the mountains. She missed Ennis.
She got a shower, brused her hair, and teeth, then laid in bed. She couldn't sleep. She went down to the barn. She saw her horse that was getting old and could only see out of one eye. She hoped on him and took him for a little ride around the farm. She got back and she was still not tired. She laid in her bed staring at the ceiling.

Ennis knew that it was a long ride to Riverton where Alma's parents house was. He musta dozed off cause he woke to the trucker saying "Hey boy this your stop?" Ennis looked around a bit confused, but then saw the sign ' Welcome to Riverton '. "Yup this is me, thanks". Ennis was a man of very little words. He got his stuff (which was only a folded brown paper bag) and slammed the truck door closed.
He started walking up the road toward the bar, even though it was late and he knew Alma would be surprised to see him, he wanted a beer before showing up at her house. He thought he needed to calm his nerves. It hit him that in a few months he was going to be married to Alma and they would have to find a place of their own.
He entered the bar and asked the bartender for a cold beer. He also decided to grab a burger to go with it, since it had been hours since he ate last. He sat in silence eating his burger and drinking his beer. He wondered if Alma had done her nightly ritual of bathing, brushing her hair and teeth before climbing into bed. She sure was going to be surprised to see him a month early. He finished up and started walking to wards the ' Beers ' farm. He stopped just short of the door, looked up and could see a dim light coming from where Alma's room was. She must be still up he thought. He put his bag down, grabbed a small rock and tossed it up to her window, waiting to see if she would answer ' his call ' liked he done when the were courting..........

Alma heard something against her window, but thought nothing of it and stared at the ceiling, wondering, thinking, pindering every little thought that enter her mind.

Ennis waited a few mins. He could see a dim light on in Alma's room so he knew she was still awake. Probably stareing at her ceiling, she often did that when she was deep in thought. He picked up a slightly bigger rock and tossed it at her window. She had to have heard that one. Ennis stood and waited for her to come to the window................

She slowly stood up and went to her window, opened it and saw Ennis. She asked him what he was doing there so late at night.........

"Alma, I just got back in from Brokeback. I came right over here (Ennis lied but thought that it would make Alma mad to know that he stopped for a beer and somethin to eat first), thought you'd be happier to see me?" Ennis was alittle taken aback from Alma's lack of happiness to see him. He wondered what was up....................

"Just waiting for my number to be called." she said as she swivelled the beer mug around by its handle and then rose it again to her red coloured lips. Lureen shrugged, "at least that is today's reason..." she added with a mysterious trace of a smile. So what if she'd also come to sit in the corner and watch people come and go, to get some sense of feeling alive at seeing the ways others operated. Getting completely plastered and out of feeling for returning home was not out of plan or out of sight either... though she knew better than too have too many drinks or too many tokes before finishing her ride, and with any luck collecting the money she desparately needed.

Looking up at Alma standing at the window sent a little shiver down Ennis's spine. He hoped that it was a good thing and not anything to do with the knots that where turning his his stomach. "Yeah we hada come down cause there was a bad storm comin. I know it's a bit earlier than I was expecting. Well I just wanted to let ya know I was o.k. and I'm stayin up at the Motel up the street. It's late and I'll see ya tomorrow." Ennis gave a wave and started to walk up the driveway............

She sat there staring. "Awesome!" she said. "Wait, maybe you can sleep in the barn and get up early enough to get out of there before daddy wakes up." She waited as she pondered the time.........

"Oooooooohhhhhh, a ridin' gal. Gotta admit, you don't pass by those often," said Jack, taking the final sip out of his glass and bringing it down on to the weak wood counter with a resounding clank. He nodded to the bartender to get him another drink, pulled his hand over to take out his wallet again, and turns to Lureen and says, "Fancy another drink before you're called? Oh, and I never caught your name," he said, smiling at her with a bright beam.

"Then don't pass her by." she teased playfully and winked at his big grin, finished off her whiskey and looked to his wallet and his offer and for a moment seemed to ponder it. She shook her head to the drink, slid her mug in towards the bartender and let her fingertips glide over Jack's as she met his eye. "That's 'cause I never said it." Lureen added with a mysterious smile. She heard the annoucing blare through the small tavern and ring out the number a few prior to hers... but first leaned in towards his ear. "Thank you." she said seductively and did not overlook letting her lips linger at his ear before finding her way through the murky tavern to the exit... not yet giving into him, her name.

Ennis knew it was at least 3 AM and wanted a decent nights sleep. He kept walking and didn't turn around till he got to the main road. Heading to the Motel Ennis kicked at the rocks that were lined on the main road, he pondered what tomorrow was going to bring and what he was going to do for work now that he was back with Alma. He knew that November was only a couple months away and that's when he was to marry Alma. He knew that he had to get a good payin job and then find them a place to live. He felt a lot of pressure and for a split second wished he was back up on Brokeback. Up there he didn't feel this 'nagging' feeling like he felt since he'd been back. He saw the red M O T E L sign and decided what he needed was a good hot shower and a good nights sleep...........
