Alma brought her head inside the window and sat on her bed. She heard her dad so she hurried up and got in bed. She finally fell asleep.
The next day she went to work and got really bored, again. When there was nothing to do and no customers were in line she got up and looked at a nearby newspaper. She looked for the classifieds. She fliped through all the unimportant pages. She finally got to the classifieds and saw the perfect apartment. It was above a laundramat and closer to the store. She waited for her shift to end to go find Ennis at the motel.

"Alrighty then," he said with a small snort that was meant to be a laugh, and took sips out of his own drink, his thoughts still lingering upon the extremely close contact she had just committed. His eyes twinkled in an excited manner as he felt the alcohol rush to his brain.
"So how old are you little miss?" he asked, his curiosity about her age arising right after she spoke in his ear. Quite a strange thing, would you agree?

"17..." Lureen said, ages didn't matter much out west, and certainly not so long as your daddy had the pulls over half the towns and every surrounding state for their tractor and impliment needs.
Her eyes quickly scathed him as he called her little miss and she spurted in with "Big boy." after her age.

Ennis woke with a yawn and a stretch. He rubbed at his eyes as the sun shot through the tacky motel curtains. 9:00am, he was hoping that it was later but decided he better get a move on and take a nice hot shower. His thoughts led him to thinking about Alma and what he was going to do for work now that he was back from Brokeback. He knew that Alma would want him to maybe help her daddy on his farm, but he needed to find his own job so that they could get a place of their own once they were married. After the shower he got dressed and was going to head over to the store where he knew Alma would be working.........

"I thought I'd come in and say hello to my little darlin" he went over to Alma and gave her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. It had been 2 months since he'd seen Alma last. "I need to get me some work 'for we go and get married. I'm gonna head up to the few ranches I saw when I came into town, see if any of em need some help. I'll come and pick you up after work" With that he left and headed up the road.

Ennis really wondered what his and Alma's life was going to be like. He really wanted to do right by her and give her everything that he didn't have while he was growing up. He headed up the road to the first ranch that he saw. He walked up to the barn, peered around and went back to the front of the house. "What you lookin for boy" came a voice from behind him. Ennis turned around to see a man standing with a shot gun at his side. "I'm just a wonderin if you need any help here is all sir" Ennis stammered...............

"Well, your number should be called anytime soon, how abouts we leave this here dingy old bar and go out and get us some fresh air?" he said as he put down his empty glass.
He gave a nod to the bartender, signaling for him to take the cup and then turned to stare at the girl, realizing that she wasn't much younger than him. He opened his eyes a small centimeter, giving his facial expression a suggestive sense of somewhat of a beg. He was hoping to get a small laugh out of Lureen.

Lureen gave him a slight chuckle and her eyes sized up his face, was this kid for real? "Leaving the bar, cowboy... that I can do. But I've got a horse to warm up." she said stepping now consistently towards the door. "Will you be rodeoing this evening?" she enquired, conversationally.

"Nope, but I sure as hell can watch," he said, winking as he got off his chair and began to escort Lureen out of the bar. As he opened the door, he opened in a sleezy form of etiquette. By sleezy, I mean hat instead of placing his hand on her back, he want a bit lower than it's formally supposed to go.

"You came all this way just to watch?" she said increduously... that is what he had just hinted at. Lureen felt his hand meet below her waist line and her hand instinctively spun and grabbed his hand... nearly urging him on, but in the act maybe trying to stop him, it was not so clear what her intention had been. "You do that often?" Lureen asked, still in conversation tones, not differentiating whether she meant feeling up women when pretending to be a gentlemen, or watching rodeos from the sidelines

"Not too much," he said in a cracked voice. "And so what if I comes around here just to watch? I just got back from a long summer job, and there ain't nothin' better than to comin' to this here rodeo. The feelin' of the place just makes me smile," he said, his voice trailing off into happy memories and an expressionless look came to his face. For those moment that those thoughts ran his head, his hands left Lureen's lower waist and fell to his sides.
He let her through and followed her out to her horse.

"Mmm" she remarked with a half shrug and a disinterest in her tone, despite the fact that she was listening to him intently, every word, each articulation and even the way his breathing changed as he spoke versus staying silent. "Fond memories from yer past on this soil?" she asked, more just a blind guess as they reached the stall where Pie was... scavaging for the extra hay that the previous horse had let fall from his mouth without a moment's thought.
She smiled at the sorrel beauty and gave a shove to the rackety old stall door after pulling out the holding pin.
