"You could say that," he said, as his face brought back his usual expression of small satisfaction. After he spoke those words, the rush of bad memories poured in and he decided to say nothing. It's not like the world needed to hear his problems.
As Jack was thinking, a man with a plastic board came up to Jack and Lureen and asked, "Which one of you two be riding today?"
Jack did not wait for Lureen to respond, so he answered for her. "This here lassy is."
The man handed her a number, stretching out his arm without any intention of moving to give it to her. His face was that of annoyance, desperation, and anxiety. He seemed to be in a hurry and his face turned red suddenly. "Are you gonna grab the damn thing or what!?" he shouted.
Jack was surprised by his character and did somewhat of a jog to the man to get the number. He started cursing under his breath as he walked back to Lureen and handed her the number. He laughed a bit at the moron that had just given him the number, and looked at the number. It read 27. 25 had just been called. "Looks like you're almost up."

"Shit." she said and looked down to his hands that had a hold on the number and she looked back at the bastard that had, in a hurry or not, had been so very rude. She flashed him her middle finger, though his back was long since turned the other direction.
Lureen took the number from Jack, and with her other hand reached into the back pocket of her blue-jeans and pulled out some pins, and tacked it onto Pie's saddle blanket. She still had no hat to her name, had to get the horse conditioned and ready to run. She finished bridling him and led Pie out of the stall. "See ya later cowboy." Lureen said as she swung up and rode off to the warm-up ring.

Jack smiled as she left and muttered a parting under his breath. He was quite happy that he met the girl and went back to his old truck.
He jumped into the warm leather seats that burned him from his back down to his thighs and drove the truck a bit closer to the ring. Luckily, he found an open space only two places from the actual arena, and parked with a great appreciation.
He walked out, and without really nearing the ring, he rested his back upon the back of his truck, watching Lureen warm up her horse. He couldn't help but stare at her deeply sexually attractive body.

Lureen was a bit frazzled as she generally had more time on her hands, usually an entire afternoon to ready her mind and get into the groove of what she was about to embarck upon, but no... not this time. She cantered Pie in a few small circles, switching his leads midstride and then slowing him down to a long trot so him muscles would extend and reach their fullest peak. She rose out of the saddle with each stride to encourage and posted, her thighs squeezing hard and and her hands serving as only a gentle guide.
Her gaze slowly shifted over to Jack, not expecting to find him still there, but leaned up against his blue truck his back was propped, intently watching her. Lureen blushed and quickly diverted her gaze, purposefully or not as her number was called. She gave her steed a pat on his neck and went soaring into the ring, taking the barrels at rapid speed, but with a grace that the clover leaf pattern was nothing but a blur to anyone, but completely flawless on her part. Maybe all of the preparation before hand had never really done anything, as she broke the arena record.

Ennis was very thankful to "Jeb, call me Jeb. My pappy is Mr Hastings. Yeah well thanks for the job Jeb, and I'll see ya tomorrow mornin" Ennis walked off happily. He didn't really expect to find a job so easily. He walked over to the store where Alma was waiting for him. Ennis walked in and saw Alma's boss Monroe. "Hey Monroe where Alma be?" "Hey Ennis I didn't know you were back? Um Alma is in the condements isle" Monroe pointed to the isle that said ketchup, mustard, sauces. "Thanks" Ennis said and headed towards isle #7. He saw Alma standing looking out the window. "Whatcha lookin for darlin" he said as Alma jumped a little startled by his voice.........

"Yup, and I also go me a job today. Over at the Hastings farm, I start tomorrow". Ennis gave Alma a hug and a kiss, making sure that no one saw them. "I'll take you out for dinner?"

As soon as Jack noticed that the announcer was claiming that Lureen had broken a record, he jumped up on his truck and started screaming at the top of his lungs, congratulating her in every way possible, profane or not.
As soon as the crowd quieted down, Jack appeared to be the only one still clapping. As a few heads turned their attention to him, he relaxed and jumped off his truck and began to walk towards the stalls to wait for Lureen.

Lureen looked over at Jack and had to consciously stifle her chuckle as her eyebrow quirked upwards. She barely knew the guy and he was going estatic. A small blush wiped over her face, or was it just the sweat of anticipation and exhileration that had met her brow.
She gave her horse a few circles in the warmup ring, to cool him down and not stress the muscles of his legs, and then rode over to the announcer's stand. There were bonuses to being last in your class. You knew instantly how you ranked in the stats, and breaking a record got you a bit of extra money. She turned in her number and graciously accepted her winnings but declined offers to be photographed by some local newsboys on site.
She loosened Picasso's breastplate and cinch, but did not dismount, she had a long ride home ahead of her, and if not home... well somewhere with a stable.
Lureen pulled out of her winnings the money she owed Jack for the drink, suspecting he'd refuse she leaned down as if to speak something to it and slid it into the pocket of his jeans. "Guess you're good luck, cowboy." she smiled slightly

"Oh I don't want this," he said, taking it out of his pocked as she approached him so suddenly. "I was just bein' a gentleman." He laughed after he heard the word gentlement slip his lips. Since when was giving an underaged girl alcoholic beverages being mannerful and respectful? he thought.
He ignored his thoughts and turned his attention back on Lureen. "Well, where you headed to after this?" he asked.
(To my peeps here who are playing Ennis and Alma, I have a roleplay on my roleplaying boards that needs Alma and Lureen to be played. I'm doing Jack, Kelley's doing Ennis, and we could really use an Alma and Lureen. If anyone's interested, the URL is on my signature, and the roleplay is under Random.)

(Yes we would love to see anyone else over there ;D )
Lureen would not accept the money back, a girl of strong wits and wills. "Oh I don't know... here and there..." she shrugged. "What ever cornfields or stalling stables look appealing." she said.. not making mention of home, or her house, as she preferred because there was nothing homey about it... not at all.

"Let's go and talk over at the burger joint, Tom's Diner" Ennis took Alma by the hand and led her through the store. The thought of house hunting with her kinda scared Ennis a bit. He couldn't help feel this naggin feeling in the back of his mind. He thought he must just be hungry and decided he was going to have the biggest burger he could order.

"Well, I don't plan on returnin' home much either. Wanna sleep out in my truck?" he asked in a very perverse kind of way. What he was asking for was way to obvious in the tone of his voice. Although it may have seemed wrong, he was trying to catch her off guard and manage to return the money into her shirt pocket.

"And what cowboy- tie my horse up to your rearview mirror?" she smiled slightly. "Where ya planning on parking up for the night?" Lureen asked, seemingly uninterested... still atop her horse she rode over to the watering trough, and let him have a drink.
